Dreamcast 2 announced.

Over the weekend, the Sega Corporation (formerly Sega Enterprises, Ltd.), shocked the gaming world when it announced (via social media) the development of a new console: The Dreamcast 2.

Vice -President of Future Concepts for Sega of America Inc., Robert Morton had this to say over Twitter, “Sony and Microsoft have a killer rep, but it’s a smokescreen, they’ve lost their teeth. It’s time for Sega to come back in town.”

And he couldn’t be more right. With recent successes like Aliens: Colonial Marines and Sonic Boom selling millions of units for Sega and encouraging the company to move forward with the plans for a new console, the timing is picture perfect for such an announcement. Plans for the system thus far include: Blu-Ray compatibility, motion – control support, a new version of Sega Net with the ability to stream and download thousands of classic Sega titles, but the most exciting feature so far: Being able to play not only Dreamcast 1 and 2 games, but also support for Xbox One and PS4 titles as well.

Robert Morton went on further to say during an interview with Mediabreak, “We predict an end to the console wars within 90 days of the Dreamcast 2’s release. Holidays, 2015.”

More on this story as it develops.
